The Value of Drinking Water

Water is one of the most essential nutrients required by the human body to function properly every day. This is no surprise as 55%-75% of the human body is made of water depending on body size. Water is largely recommended as the safest way to keep the body hydrated always. This is because water contains zero sugar, calories nor fat.

A healthy body is largely dependent on the amount of water consumed every day by an individual. Experts usually recommend drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day to maintain hydration and keep the body healthy. Even though some fruits and vegetables can also help in proper hydration, here are a few reasons why appropriate water consumption is the absolute best.

Water Acts As a Detoxifier

The human body is designed to take in nutrients and pass out waste products as toxins. These are normally passed out through your feces, urine and sweat. Water acts as a detoxifier by helping the process of flushing out toxins primarily through sweat and urine. Water also helps in improving the function of the kidney and reducing the risk of kidney stones. It does this by diluting the salts and minerals in urine responsible for kidney stones.

Helps In Keeping Hydration Levels at Maximum

Dehydration is one of the leading factors responsible for fatigue, stress, weight gain, and reduced brain functions. Studies have shown that even as little as mild dehydration of 1%-3% of an individual's body weight can cause a lot of damage to the brain. A 1%-3% body weight equals about 0.5kg-3 kg of an average person who weighs 68 kg; this loss can easily occur from carrying out normal daily activities, let alone during exercise. It is important to keep our hydration levels up by drinking enough water to help keep brain function at a maximum.

Water Helps in Regulating Body Temperature

During increased physical activities and high heat, altered temperatures are bound to suffice. An ample amount of water can help in regulating and normalizing body temperature. Water can cause an exothermic reaction by, releasing heat from the body when sweat evaporates from the surface of your skin.

Water not only can regulate the body temperature, but, it also maximizes physical performance. Water would reduce fatigue which would, in turn, help in increasing energy levels.

Water Helps in Keeping a Youthful Appearance

When we age, we will begin to notice a lot changes in the elasticity of the skin. Water cannot solve the cases of wrinkles and creases. However, it can reduce the appearance of it. The skin is filled with water and functions as a barrier to prevent fluid loss. Dehydration can make your skin look dry and wrinkled; therefore, adequate water consumption is essential to skin-care. Consuming the right amount of water can help the kidneys flush out toxins through sweat, leaving your skin firm and well moisturized.

Water Aids Weight Loss

Water is not the ultimate solution you need to losing weight; however, it does help the process. Substituting high-calorie soda drinks for water and a high-calorie meal for foods high in water content like fruits and vegetables can help quicken the weight loss process. This is because foods high in water are absorbed slowly by the body and can make you seem filled up. It also helps with your metabolism and helps you lose inches.

Keeping hydration at maximum levels is important. To achieve this goal, drink an adequate amount of water daily and also consume drinks, fruits and vegetables that are high in water content.
